Sticks vs. Clicks: Uncovering the Root of all Drumming

The goal of this class is to outline the absolute fundamentals needed to establish oneself as a working percussionist, whether on a kit or as a VP, as well as to explore the intricacies of a drummer’s soundset, both in amplitude and frequency. Students should expect to leave the class with a refreshed auditory reference for how a drum kit resonates in an acoustic space (and how to augment or modify their VP sounds to fit that identity), an introductory understanding of how to use layering to expand their functionality, and a means of practice for reducing complex patterns to their most core accents.
